New Nissan Qashqai
As if there weren’t already enough reasons to like the car that surely has more Qs in its name than any that has come before it, Nissan has given us one more reason to get excited about the Qashqai.
Soon, you’ll be able to buy a Pure Drive version of the popular SUV, meaning that the current 2.0 cDi engine will be replaced by a 1.6 version that offers better fuel economy and improved emission levels. Coupled with Nissan’s Stop/Start system, emissions from the Qashqai Pure Drive will be limited to around 119k/km.
A few other new features are also in the works, including a CVT gearbox and an Around View Monitor system, which is designed to make parking and nagivating tight spaces as easy as possible by giving the driver a real-time view of the car’s surrounds.
“After a little more than four-and-a-half years, we’ve built more than a million Qashqai and seven-seat Qashqai+2 models at our Sunderland factory,” said Trevor Mann, senior vice president, Nissan Europe.
“On average we build 1,200 examples every day, with more than 80 per cent of production exported from the UK. The new Pure Drive Qashqai, especially with innovative features like Stop/Stat System and the Around View Moniter, will cement our leadership of the Crossover segment.”
The introduction of the Stop/Start system will be delayed slightly due to a shortage of parts – a result of the earthquake in Japan earlier this year – but all models built from January onward are expected to be fitted with the system.

Truck Accessories that are Attractive AND Functional
If you’re like me, you don’t like things that don’t have a purpose (other than to look pretty, that is). The same goes for truck accessories, I like a truck that looks good, of course, but great accessories are functional as well as attractive.
Take truck bed liners, for example, they look great, mainly because if you haul a lot, they keep your bed from getting that scratched, dinged, and dented look that tends to happen. Bed liners are usually pretty heavy duty, so they don’t show wear like the painted metal surface of your bed would, and they maintain that nice clean look almost indefinitely.
I also love the look of a tool box in the bed of a truck. Not only does it look good, but it also gives you a safe, secure place to store stuff, not just tools, but other things as well. If you tend to keep stuff in the bed of your truck, but don’t like to risk someone walking off with it, a tool box is the perfect accessory for your truck.
There are other things that fall into the attractive-but-functional category: Big tires help you get around in the snow, for example. Tonneau covers protect your belongings from prying eyes and protect your bed from the weather. Custom exhaust doesn’t just sound good, it also gives your horsepower a slight boost because it allows your engine to breathe a little better. Even tinted windows have a purpose, because they keep heat out, allow your air conditioning to work more efficiently, and prevent the sun from damaging your interior.
There are some things, of course, that aren’t strictly functional. A nice sound system, for example, has absolutely no purpose other than entertainment. But a lot of truck accessories actually do have a practical purpose, in addition to an aesthetic one. What accessories do you have on your truck that serve this dual purpose?
